As the cars left the grid Highcroft got an excellent start and was instantly up the inside of Marchie. Around the first corner and Highcroft took an early lead with Richy trying to go up the inside of Luckier in the second set of corners. Luckier shut the door and held his position throughout the lap. Going onto the long back straight Marchie was in the slipstream of Highcroft's Cobalt. Using the power of the Sentra Marchie powered past Highcroft and took the lead before the last corner.
As all the cars barrelled into the last corner Luckier slightly clipped the rear of the Cobalt, nearly sending it towards the barrier. Highcroft held the car and continued in second place. Gary took a slightly wider line than everyone else and ended up rubbing against the barrier.
Lap two and Luckier was challenging Highcroft into the first corner. Close behind the two MINIs of M&M Racing were battling each other going through the first corner. Second corner and Highcroft messed up his breaking point and ran wide coming out of the first part of the corner allowing Luckier to slip though and into 2nd. Richy tried to dive up the inside as well but Highcroft closed the door. This allowed Ian to close right up behind Richy and take the position off him going round the corner onto the back straight.
On lap three Ian passed Highcroft for 3rd position but Highcroft reclaimed his position by using the Chevy engine to power past the small MINI on the back straight. Under heavy breaking for the final corner the Cobalt under steered due to the bumps of the road and this allowed Ian's MINI to nip past and back into 3rd position.
Everyone held position throughout the rest of the race. Luckier gained time on Marchie but then dropped back towards the clutches of Ian throughout the race. Marchie drove a faultless race and took maximum points for the first race of Round 6 of the BTCC.
