With less than 48 hours to go before the first meeting of the BTCC season, Team Halfords has announced its intention to run two Honda Civic Type R race cars for drivers ckBrenneke and garyp3398.
This decision comes after speculation over whether the team would stick with the Honda powered cars it is most commonly associated with. They had been spotted testing a number of cars at Motegi, including a Peugeot 207, Vauxhall Astra, and a Honda Civic Si Coupe. However, it seems that the team has opted to stick with the car that debuted only last season.
Drivers ckBrenneke and garyp3398 will be joined by test driver craigsteralex, who will also step in to race when either lead driver is unable to do so due to work and family commitments. All three drivers hail from the west coast of Scotland. Both ckBrenneke and garyp3398 have limited experience of this discipline of racing, with this being the first championship they have entered together, while craigsteralex has spent the past few years predominantly in the pro-street arena.
"I'm confident that we have a car which is competitive," ckBrenneke said today. "Testing has been fairly limited due to time constraints and indecision over which direction we wanted to take the car, but we posted times of between 58 and 59 seconds on the Silverstone National Circuit. We need to treat the first few outings as extended tests under race conditions, but as we build in experience, and with a bit of luck, we should see the Civic give a good account of itself."
"We're looking forward to fair and balanced racing," commented garyp3398.
