I figured that's how you'd greet us. I thought it'dit with Steph wearing my coat....and several others!!
ANYWAY......
here's by photographic record of the day at Thruxton.... and for the first time some vids. As usual all are presented as is with no alterations
GT Practice:
The #18 Cadena Aston Martin piloted by Barrie Whight
#20, the gorgeous ABG Motorsport Viper CC.
and the equally nice Team RPM Viper CC
The first of the CRS cars out was James Sutton's #14 430
Volkswagen Racing Cup
Lap 2 of the race was highlighted by this crash involving three cars. Only one escaped but was later disqualified for causing an unavoidable accident that severely damaged the Beetle of Martyn Culley and the Jetta guest car driven by Owen Middenhall. Both drivers were incensed at the incident and stormed back to the paddock.
My 'local lads' this time were the Dziurzynski boys from Exeter and Bournemouth. While due to an earlier accident Alex from Exeter was out of the race before it began, Adrian was flying in his beautifully prepared Golf GTI...one of the oldest cars in the race. He narrowly missed out on a podium in race one.
Oh yes and Herbie was there too!! Though apparently he DOES need a driver. Strange that the title of 'Herbie goes to Thruxton' got dropped....
Just to sho that Boras aren't always Bora-ing..... bad ain't it?!?!
The culprit of the lap 2 fracas
The perfect image of club racing.... man...car...empty track. Who could want or more?
The benefit of diesel? If at first they try to pass you? Lay down a thick cloud of smog to distract them!
Oh did I not mention there were vans involved? I swear this is where all the angry cabbies and white van men go on a Sunday afternoon!!
Again with the smokescreen!!! And a window logo that sounds more like a Rally driver's demand than a Golf racer. (Those with a dirty mind stop sniggering at the back!)
Formula 3: Race 1
The stunning looking Mygales.... now I WILL pronounce these MY-Gales and not ME-Gals like the commentators did..... It bugged me. This the #12 car driven by Ricardo Teixeira.
Race 1 was very much an all Carlin affair. The team getting a 1-3 in Race 1
There was close racing all through the field as demonstrated by Hywell Lloyd (52) and Jordan Williams (59)
Ozzie, John Martin finds his vision obscured by the heavily locked up car in front.
Race 1 winner Brendon Hartley, the wavy, blonde haired New Zealander
2nd place man, Marcus Ericsson
Artsy shot No.1
British GT Championship
Following a 1st lap collision with the Aston of Michael Bentwood, Allan Simonsen stormed through the field before the race was red flagged after a collision between two Ginettas.
The red flagged race would also see a coming together between a CRS Ferrari and the Cadena Aston.
Front end damage to the Cadena Aston
The second part of the race was frought but clean, the Alexander/Bentwood Aston holding a clear advantage
Rob Austin, reason for the red flag was allowed to race despite some severe weight reduction on his Ginetta... though in the heat he'd probably be glad of the breeze!
The CIM Ferrari monsters the VRS 430 of Burton/Wilcox...
.... then the CHAD 430 of Matt Griffin.
The Cadena Aston battled on, complete with war wounds
At no point could you write off the chances of the Trimite Viper. It fought through the pack from a low grid position to take the win outright.
The CIM car was just mightily quick all race long.
Following the pitstops, a certain podium slipped from the grasp of the 22GTRacing team with this spin...handing 3rd to the second CRS car of Cullen/Shovelin
BTCC stalwart Luke Hines would finish a solid 2nd
The #15 CRS Ferrari of Shovelin/Cullen in 3rd place
Formula 3 Race 2
Snetterton winner Devaney could only manage a 5th in this encounter. His MYGale no match for the Carlin boys at the head of the pack
Hartley won again...leading home a Red Bull Carlin 1-2-3
Sefan Wilson, brother to famous Justin failed to finish the second race.
Henry Arundel racing for Raikonnen Robertson Racing could only manage 8th place
Ginetta G50 Race 2
How NOT to race a Ginetta
Heritage GT Challenge
(No I don't get it either...)
(Yup even a Cortina!)
(Aero tweaks to this Aston V8??)
No words needed for that race!!! Beauty in car form.
So that was the day that was.....
As usual feel free to leave your comments on my pics...and TVR's of course
The vids wll be added when I can upload them
